COS band, orchestra to hold concert: The College of Sequoias will hold its Winter Jazz Showcase tonight at 7:30 at the COS Theatre. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students with ID.
The concert will feature guest artists Wayne Bergeron on trumpet and Bob McChesney on trombone. The COS Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jeff Bilden, will open the concert and the COS Thursday Night Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bill Butts will accompany the guest artists.
The COS Concert Choir and Chamber Singers under the direction of Jeff Seaward will present works by Morten Lauridsen and traditional holiday favorites on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the COS Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors and students with ID.
COS music majors will present their fall semester recital on Dec. 13 at 3 and 7 p.m. in the COS Choir Room/Recital Hall. All music majors will perform individual works to showcase their individual talents. Admission is free and open to the public.

 Chamber to hold christmas flowers japanTree Auction
HANFORD — The Hanford Civic Auditorium will be filled with the sights and sounds of the holidays Thursday as the Hanford Chamber of Commerce presents its 15th annual Christmas Tree Auction to benefit local nonprofit organizations.
“Christmas around the World” kicks off at 6 p.m., with a silent auction and door prizes as well as hors d’oeuvres provided by the Irwin Street Inn. Guests can bid on holiday items as well as decorated Christmas trees in the live auction.
There will be a no-host bar and a full dinner with all the trimmings beginning at 7 p.m. Bidding on the live auction items, including the decorated trees, kicks off at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $40 per person or $300 for a table of eight and are available at the Chamber office, 109 W. Seventh St. For more information, call 582-0483.
Carolla hating on holidays in Fresno
FRESNO — Comedian and TV/radio personality Adam Carolla will bring his “Adam Carolla Hates the Holidays” show to the Tower Theatre Thursday.
After cutbacks forced Adam to quit his syndicated “Adam Carolla Show” broadcast on CBS radio, Adam started “The Adam Carolla Podcast” with only a computer and a microphone from his home office in February 2009. A year later, the podcast was named iTunes top podcast and receives more than five million downloads a month. He’s also working on a new NBC pilot and writing a novel.
The show begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7. Tickets are $34.50.

Kings Players to perform holiday favorite
HANFORD — The Kings Players youth production of “FrUiTcAkEs” continues Friday.
Show dates are Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as Dec. 16-17. Tickets are $10 for adults  and $8 for seniors and students.
Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2. Saturday’s performance will be at 2 p.m. instead of in the evening. The box office and doors to the theater will open a half hour before show time.
The play will be performed at the Temple Theater, which is located just east of China Alley at 514 Visalia St. in Hanford.

Carnegie Museum to hold open house
HANFORD — The Hanford Carnegie Museum will be decked out for the Christmas season until Sunday, with a Holiday Wreaths show and a silent auction featured during normal weekly hours Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A holiday open house and bazaar will be held Saturday with cookies, hot cider, music and fun gift items.

Holiday home tour approaches
HANFORD — It’s almost time for the Holiday Home Tour. The event, presented by the Kings Art Center Guild, will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Three homes will be featured, all beautifully decorated with trees, nutcrackers, nativities and other wonderful items. This year’s tour stops include the home of Francie and Richard Washburn in Lemoore plus the Luise and Dave Salvador home and the Tami and Kevin Mannix home, both in Hanford.
The homes may be visited in any order. Following the tour is a reception at the Kings Art Center, 605 North Douty St., beginning at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 a raffle will be held for holiday decorations, including table centerpieces, wreaths and baskets.
Tickets are $25 per person. Raffle tickets are $1 each and may be purchased with your tour tickets from the Kings Art Center or from any Guild member. Tickets are also available from Van Andel’s, 210 W. Seventh St.; Artisan’s, 111 W. Seventh St.; and Candice & Co., 117 W. Guitarist Hoey bring Christmas show to Exeter
EXETER — Celebrate the holidays in rock ‘n roll style when guitarist Gary Hoey presents his “Ho! Ho! Hoey” Christmas show at Orange Blossom Junction in Exeter Tuesday.
Hoey has released 16 albums and has five top 20 Billboard hits. His popular “Ho! Ho! Hoey” series of three Christmas CDs showcases his blazing guitar playing style and ignites holiday standards like “Let It Snow” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for dinner, with the show to follow at 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 with dinner and $50 for just the concert.
Guitars signed by Hoey will be auctioned off to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias.

Mannheimer Steamroller to perform christmas flowers japan blogs tunes
FRESNO — Broadway in Fresno will present Mannheim Steamroller at Fresno’s Saroyan Theatre Tuesday.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $75 plus a $3 per ticket facility fee.
The shows will feature the favorite Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with state-of-the-art multimedia effects. In 1984, Mannheim Steamroller released “Mannheim Steamroller Christmas,” combining the group’s signature mix of renaissance instruments with rock ‘n’ roll beats. The resulting album was a runaway hit and not only propelled Mannheim Steamroller to become the biggest selling Christmas music artist in history, but also one of the top 50 biggest selling musical acts ever with more than 35 million albums sold. The group’s annual Christmas tour is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Auditions set for upcoming play
HANFORD — The Kings Players will hold auditions for “The Curious Savage” Dec. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. The cast includes five men and six women ages 18 to 70.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa and guests invade Save Mart Center
FRESNO — The “Up High and Conscious” tour featuring headliner Wiz Khalifa and guests Common, Aesop Rock and New Boyz heads to the Save Mart Center Dec. 23.
Wiz Khalifa came to be a rising star over the course of the late 2000s based on his young bravado and hardcore yet charismatic execution of rhymes. Consciously building up his city’s hip-hop reputation, he sought out to create a sound that was uniquely Pittsburgh, relying on his East Coast (Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan), Southern (Three 6 Mafia), and other (Bone Thugs-N-Harmony) hip-hop influences.

LATON — The Laton Lions Club will hold its New Year’s Eve Dinner/Dance on Dec. 31.

Clark Center exhibition features clothing
HANFORD — The Clark Center for Japanese Art and Culture’s exhibition, “Woven Identities of Japan: Kimono and Costumes,” will continue through Jan. 28.
The second of two rotations, the exhibition showcases articles of clothing from mainland Japanese society, focusing on the different weaving, dyeing and decorative techniques used to create them. The objects on display include lavish examples of various types of kimono and theatrical costumes, offering viewers a broad overview of the variations in styles and decoration in Japanese textiles.
Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., with a tour every Saturday at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for students and active military with ID, and free for children 12 and under.
The center will be closed from Dec. 23 through Jan. 2.

HANFORD — “Embracing The Divine — Visual Encounters With Christmas,” an art show at the L.T. Sue Tea Room in China Alley, is continuing through Jan. 6.
